General volunteering
We very much welcome volunteers who want to come and get ‘stuck in’ and get involved with anything ranging from an admin task, to harvesting, to helping out at an event! Everyone is welcome and no experience is needed!
Medicine Making
We hold regular medicine making sessions. We make the medicine for our mobile dispensary in Bristol at our room at St Werburghs Community centre. They are great fun, and a wonderful way to contribute to the project. We hold one session each month. Please see the events page for further information.
Organisational Meetings
If you are interested in being part of this exciting project, we have monthly meetings in which we organise the project. We welcome people to join us and help us in continuing to move forward. Please see the events page for further information.
Growing & Harvesting Herbs
If you would like to grow or harvest herbs for the project, that would be much appreciated! Here is a list of what we need: Herb Harvest List. Please, be absolutely sure of your plant identification before harvesting any herb.
When harvesting in the wild, we encourage sustainable harvesting: picking no more than a third of what is there, and ensuring it does not look like anyone has been there after you have finished.
Drying any herbs you have picked is the best way to store them until we use them to make medicine. Here is an article with tips on drying herbs.
We use dried herbs to mix medicinal teas, therefore it is important that the dried herbs are cut small enough to be infused in a tea.
HERB TO HARVEST NOW:
If you see some hawthorn berries and rosehips still on the trees, you can freeze them and bring them to be kept in our freezer in St Werburghs Community Centre. They will be turned into syrup and glycerites!
Every contribution of time, energy, money, or resources, helps us to build a support network for asylum seekers and refugees in Bristol and beyond.
Thank you!
